
The calendar features 13 exceptional photographs, carefully selected from an impressive collection of 1,107 images captured by 50 homeless individuals who participated in the project. Each photograph presents a unique narrative of Mumbai’s urban landscape, viewed through the eyes of those who experience the city at its most intimate level.
“This initiative serves a dual purpose – it not only provides a creative platform for our homeless citizens but also aligns with our ongoing efforts to address homelessness in Mumbai,” stated Chief Minister Fadnavis during the launch. He also highlighted the government’s accelerated efforts to establish night shelters across the city, demonstrating a commitment to proper solutions for the homeless population. @kiwipauluk @myworldcreativeprojects helped provide crucial support to the project.
The selection process was overseen by a distinguished panel comprising of Mr. Ujjwal Uke, (Chairman of State-Level Shelter Monitoring Committee, Maharashtra), Mr. @anilgalgalirti Galgali (Senior RTI activist), Dr. @ratoolakundu Kundu (Faculty at TISS), Mr. Prashant Nakwe (Senior Journalist and Photo Editor), Mr. Brijesh Arya (Founder of Pehchan) and @sarthak13349(Research Fellow, Pehchan).
Brijesh Arya the calendar represents more than just a collection of photographs. “It’s a statement about inclusion, dignity, and the right of every citizen to participate in the cultural narrative of their city,” he said.
This project not only showcases the creativity and resilience of the homeless communities but also serves as a powerful tool for raising awareness and advocating for their rights. The calendar sales and fundraising efforts will directly support Pehchan’s work in uplifting and empowering Mumbai’s homeless community .
