
Bhushan Gagrani (Municipal Commissioner, BMC) inaugurated the ‘My Mumbai Project Photo Exhibition’ with great enthusiasm at the Mumbai Press Club. “These photographs of Mumbai, captured by the homeless community are truly astonishing. Through their eyes and lens, we could see Mumbai in its truest form” said Mr. Gagrani.
The MyMumbai Calendar Project is an empowering initiative by the community-based NGO, Pehchan, that gives a voice to the homeless communities of Mumbai. The project uses Photovoice to engage the city’s homeless population. This project not only showcases the creativity and resilience of the homeless communities but also serves as a powerful tool for raising awareness and advocating for their rights.
The event at the Mumbai Press Club was attended by notable dignitaries including Mr. Bhushan Gagrani, State-Level Shelter Monitoring Committee, Chairman Ujwal Uke, RTI Activist Anil Galgali, Senior Photo Editor Prashant Nakwe, Pehchan President Brijesh Arya, Sarthak Banerjeepuri & others, who shared their insights and encouragement towards this unique and wonderful initiative.
Brijesh Arya, founder of Pehchan shares that the calendar features 13 exceptional photographs, carefully selected from an impressive collection of 1,107 images captured by 50 homeless individuals who participated in the project. Each photograph presents a unique narrative of Mumbai’s urban landscape, viewed through the eyes of those who experience the city at its most intimate level. Gagrani also reaffirmed BMC’s ongoing commitment to providing shelter for the homeless.
